The tradie website checklist
Konquer Media, Hallam. Updated .
A tradie website needs five things before anything else: your phone number as a tap-to-call button on every page, your licence or registration number where customers look, pages that load fast on a phone, a page for each service and the suburbs you cover, and a linked Google Business Profile. Everything else is a bonus.
1. Tap-to-call on every page
Most trade enquiries start on a phone. A tel: link makes the number dial in one tap; it should sit in the header and stay reachable as people scroll.
2. Your licence or registration number
Energy Safe Victoria requires registered electrical contractors to show their REC number on all promotional material, including advertisements. Builders advertising domestic building work must show their registered name and number. Plumbers are licensed or registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission, which replaced the VBA on 1 July 2025. Put the number in the header or footer of every page, and confirm your own obligations with your regulator.
3. Fast on a phone
Google indexes and ranks the mobile version of your site, and its Core Web Vitals targets are a largest contentful paint within 2.5 seconds, interaction under 200 milliseconds and layout shift under 0.1. In plain terms: the page shows quickly, responds to a tap at once, and does not jump around.
4. A page per service and per area
People search for the job and the place: hot water repair Berwick, switchboard upgrade Dandenong. One page per service you want more of, and pages for the suburbs you actually cover, beat one long page listing everything.
5. Google Business Profile, linked
Your profile is what shows in the map results. Link it to your site, set your service areas, and keep your categories tight. See our Google Business Profile guide.
Nice to have
- Real photos of your jobs, not stock.
- A short quote form that works on a phone.
- Clear call-out and after-hours pricing if you offer it.
- An assistant that answers the 9pm enquiry.

Questions
Do I legally have to show my licence number?
For registered electrical contractors in Victoria, Energy Safe Victoria says the REC number must be on promotional material. Builders must show their registration on domestic building ads. Check your own obligations with your regulator.
Is a one page site enough for a tradie?
It is a start, but separate service and suburb pages are what help you show up for specific searches.
