Where these numbers come from

Cost per click: $3.30. Enquiry rate: 8.1% of clicks. Each result shows a range 20% either side.

These are starting figures until our first monthly check. Australian sources disagree by more than 20% on some industries, so we have not averaged them into one number.

In one paragraph

To estimate what a Google Ads budget buys, divide the monthly budget by the average cost per click to get clicks, multiply clicks by the industry conversion rate to get enquiries, then divide the budget by enquiries to get cost per enquiry. A $2,000 monthly budget in a trade at a $3.30 cost per click is roughly 600 clicks and 48 enquiries, or about $42 per enquiry. Treat any single figure as the middle of a range, not a promise.

The maths

Four steps. Check it by hand.

01

Clicks

Monthly budget ÷ average cost per click. The cost per click is the industry average for Australian search, adjusted for your city.

02

Enquiries

Clicks × the industry conversion rate. A conversion here is a form, a call or a booking, not a sale.

03

Cost per enquiry

Budget ÷ enquiries. This is the number that decides whether the channel works for you, so compare it against what one job is worth.

04

The range

Every output carries ±20%. Real accounts land inside a band, and anyone quoting you a single exact number is guessing.

Questions

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads in Australia?

Work backwards from one job. If a job is worth $600 to you and you convert one enquiry in three, you can afford about $200 per enquiry. Put your target cost per enquiry into the calculator, and the budget that produces it is your floor. Most Melbourne trades and services start between $1,000 and $3,000 a month plus management.

Is the ad spend included in your management fee?

No. Google Ads management is $300 to $500 a month. The ad spend is separate, billed by Google to your own account, and you pay it at cost. Konquer never marks up media.

Why does the calculator show a range instead of one number?

Because a national average cannot know your keywords, your landing page or who else is bidding in your suburb. The ±20% band is honest about that. Two accounts on the same budget in the same trade routinely land at different costs per enquiry.

Where do the benchmark figures come from?

Published Australian Google Ads benchmark datasets, refreshed monthly. Each industry row lists its sources on screen. If two independent sources disagree by more than 20% the row is flagged for review rather than averaged into a number nobody can defend.

Does the city change the result?

Yes. Competition sets the click price, so the calculator applies a city multiplier: Sydney and Melbourne cost about 20% more than the national average, Adelaide about 15% less, and regional areas about 25% less.
