How long does a small business website take to build?

Konquer Media, Hallam. Updated .

Most small business websites take two to four weeks from the day your content and photos are ready. The build itself is rarely the slow part: waiting on words, photos and decisions is. Survey data puts small business sites anywhere from one to twelve weeks, and the difference is almost always content readiness and scope.

A realistic timeline

  • Week 0: a call, a written quote, and a list of what we need from you.
  • Week 1: structure and copy for every page, written with you.
  • Week 2: design and build, shown on a preview link.
  • Week 3: your changes, testing on phones, then live.
  • Week 4: buffer for anything waiting on you.

What slows a website down

Missing content is the big one: service details, photos of real jobs, licence numbers, the suburbs you cover. The next is decisions by committee, and the third is scope that grows mid-build. business.gov.au's own advice is to put the most important information first and to test before launch; both are faster when the content is settled early.

How to keep it short

  • Gather 10 to 20 real photos of your work before you start.
  • Write down the five questions customers always ask.
  • Decide who signs off, and give them the preview link.
  • Launch with the pages that bring calls, then add more.

Questions

Can a website be done in a week?

A one page site or landing page can, if everything is ready. A full service business site with written copy usually needs two to four weeks to be done well.

When do I see it?

On a preview link before anything goes live, so you can change what you like.

What happens after launch?

Hosting, updates and small changes continue monthly. Bigger additions like new suburb pages are quoted as you need them.
